Résumé

I will present a work in progress on how individuals respond to others in social networks. A recent experimental literature documents two important features of social interaction: (i) an individual's response to a social contact depends on how responsive that contact is to the individual, and (ii) this response is also shaped by the responsiveness of third parties. These findings suggest that social responsiveness is not simply an individual characteristic: it may be jointly determined through social interaction and shaped by the network in which interaction takes place. We develop a model of endogenous social responsiveness in networks and study its implications for conformity and antagonistic behavior.
